What Remains When Freedom Is Lost? Courage, Responsibility, Humanity.

On-site
Discussion

Two women, two continents, one mission: defending freedom.
Nilofar Ayoubi, a women’s rights activist from Afghanistan, and Carine Kanimba, a political activist from Rwanda and Belgium, share their personal struggles against oppression and violence—and what it takes to hold on to hope when freedom is no longer guaranteed.

Their stories are powerful testimonies of courage, resilience, and the conviction that freedom, equality, and human dignity are universal rights. The discussion will explore how civil society, solidarity, and the international community can support freedom movements worldwide—and what democracies must do to uphold these values.

Even in Germany, freedom is not a given but a responsibility. Polarization, distrust, weakening social cohesion, and political indifference challenge the foundations of open societies.

Key questions will guide the conversation:

  • How can individual freedoms be protected?
  • What conditions foster religious and cultural tolerance?
  • What responsibilities do the state, society, and individuals have when democracy is under threat?
  • How can social cohesion be strengthened for the long term?

An event about courage, responsibility, and the enduring power of freedom—here and everywhere.
