Berlin Insights: Politics, History, and the Road to Freedom
Join us on a guided tour through Berlin’s Parliamentary District and gain a deeper understanding of how politics, architecture, and history intersect in Germany’s capital. After the reunification of Germany, Berlin was officially declared the seat of government and parliament in 1991 – a political decision with powerful symbolic and historical meaning. This walking tour traces the development of the modern parliamentary quarter and explores how the area has been reshaped over time to reflect Germany’s path to democracy and unity.
You’ll visit key sites such as the Reichstag building, the Federal Chancellery, and other important institutions along the Spree, while learning about their architectural and historical significance. A special focus is placed on former Chancellor Helmut Kohl, whose leadership was instrumental in Germany’s reunification and in establishing Berlin as the new political heart of the nation.
The tour takes around 60-90 minutes and will be conducted in English. Please register for the event at buchungen@bundesstiftung-helmut-kohl.de
