Where Is My File? After-Work Tour of the Stasi Records Archive
The Stasi Records Archive has its origins in the peaceful revolution. Courageous citizens safeguarded the files of the GDR secret police from destruction and demanded swift access to them. The files of repression have served the purpose of clarification since 1992. The exhibition tour explains how the Stasi operated and how their records are used today.
“A Monument of Surveillance”:
111 kilometers of files are stored in the Stasi Records Archive, containing countless personal data about people—collected by the state. The exhibition “Insight into the Secrets” helps visitors understand the importance of this archive.
Before the tour, you have the opportunity to visit a sample file collection. It consists of reproductions of original Stasi records. In addition to documents on Stasi officers, you can also find files of those affected by the surveillance, who have agreed to the publication of their records and thus make an “Insight into the Secrets” possible.
