Street Food Spezial: Taiwan Night Market
For 13 years, Street Food Thursday at Markthalle Neun has served as a stage for immigrant communities and their culinary stories. As a partner of Freedom Week Berlin, this special event shines a spotlight on Taiwanese street food—presenting it for what it is: the culinary embodiment of an open, courageous society, resilience, and freedom in action.
Over the centuries, Taiwan’s indigenous Austronesian roots have blended with mainland Chinese migration, Japanese influences, and European traditions to form a melting pot. At the island’s legendary night markets, food represents life itself, a way of life, and an indomitable sense of community.
An evening full of lively encounters and Taiwanese joie de vivre: Visitors can look forward to a variety of fluffy gua baos, crispy Taiwanese fried chicken, stir-fried glutinous rice with pork sausages, mochi waffles, matcha tea, and ice-cold bubble tea. Grab your chopsticks and join the fun!
