Stories of Freedom: Votes for democracy and human rights
The Stories of Freedom festival focuses on stories of courage, resistance, and hope. In films, discussions, and an interactive exhibition, activists from around the world report on the struggle for democracy, freedom, and human rights.
The focus is on women as the driving forces behind democratic movements: from Masih Alinejad in Iran (Be My Voice) to the Afghan robotics team in Rule Breakers to director Natalie Borgers with Scars of a Coup. The US-Ukrainian production Kherson: Human Safari (directed by Zarina Zabrisky) provides particularly impressive testimony. The film documents survival in the liberated but still threatened city of Kherson in southern Ukraine – haunting, courageous and deeply human.
Following the screenings, filmmakers and activists will discuss how democratic values can be upheld – and how new alliances can be formed.
Stories of Freedom is organized by Berlin WorX in cooperation with Starlounge and curated by The Good Media Network in partnership with One World. The project is an initiative of “Meine Schönhauser Allee” and was made possible by the Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Pankow Economic Development Agency, and visitBerlin.
