"Wir wählen die Freiheit" – "We choose Freedom"

The non-partisan Konrad-Adenauer-Forum explores the democratic reconstruction of West Germany, in which Adenauer was a defining figure – as the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1963. The interactive, multimedia exhibition brings the statesman and his visionary policies to life. It shows the extent to which the Adenauer era – with its crises and accomplishments – continues to shape German society today.

As part of Berlin Freedom Week, the Forum offers a guided tour focusing on “Freedom.” During the tour, we will explore the key decisions Adenauer made amid the Cold War and examine the role his policy of aligning West Germany with the Western democracies played in shaping and strengthening democracy in the Federal Republic of Germany.
