"Wassermilch und Spitzenwein" – A Berlin Family History

Memories, contemporary history, and personal experiences are the focus of this reading with Irene Bindel. She will read from her autobiographical book *Wassermilch und Spitzenwein* and share stories about her childhood during the Nazi era as well as the postwar years in Berlin.

Born in Berlin-Lichterfelde in 1938, she grew up as the daughter of a Jewish father, living in constant fear of persecution. While her father was forced into hiding and later arrested, mother and daughter struggled to survive.

With the end of the war, the seven-year-old experienced hope and freedom for the first time. Her encounters with the American occupying forces in Berlin-Zehlendorf shaped her memories of the new beginning after 1945.

Following the reading, Irene Bindel will speak about her personal experiences and answer questions from the audience. Irmgard Zündorf will moderate the evening.
