videoBustour: From the Building of the Wall to the Fall of the Wall

Vor Ort
Führung

"We are the people!" – this chant echoes through East Berlin on October 7, 1989, as the People's Police (Volkspolizei) and the Stasi crack down brutally. The Peaceful Revolution is nearing its climax: one month later, on November 4, hundreds of thousands demonstrate on Alexanderplatz, and five days after that, the Wall falls.

The bus tour "From the Building of the Wall to the Fall of the Wall" spans the arc from these dramatic weeks back to the days of the Wall's construction in 1961. We will travel mainly through the eastern part of the city, crossing the former border several times and stopping at the former Bornholmer Straße border crossing.

At the original historical sites, our guides play historical images and film footage on large monitors to illustrate the events. The footage of East Berlin's condition in the 1980s shows just how much the city has changed since then – surprising moments are guaranteed.

The tour is offered by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung) and conducted by the agency Zeitreisen, which developed the videoBustour format.
