Missing or in captivity: How “Poshuk. Polon” searches for people
What can families do when someone goes missing and there are indications that they may be held in Russian captivity? Lawyer Vladimir Zhbankov, coordinator of “Poshuk. Polon” (“Search. Captivity”), joins Reforum for Berlin Freedom Week to introduce the project and his team's work. “Poshuk. Polon” searches for missing Ukrainians and people held in Russian captivity.
Vladimir Zhbankov explains how a search begins and what information can help establish a person's whereabouts. The conversation looks at how leads are checked, which institutions the team works with and what steps families can take to seek information about their relatives.
The conversation will also address the limits of this work: what happens when information is difficult to obtain or a search cannot yet provide an answer? How can families be supported in this situation? There will be time for questions from the audience.
The event will be held in English and is open to anyone wishing to understand this work and the situation of families searching for a missing person.
