Letters to political prisoners in Russia – an evening for families

Vor Ort
Workshop

A few lines from Berlin can reach someone imprisoned in Russia for political reasons. Join us to write letters together – on your own, with friends or with your family.

In the room for adults, we introduce political prisoners and their stories and write letters to them. We provide paper, envelopes, addresses and guidance on safe correspondence. Our team helps you get started and answers practical questions. No prior experience is needed. Adults attending without children can drop in at any time between 18:30 and 21:30.

In a second room, children aged 6–12 take part in a separate programme. They learn about young people imprisoned in Russia for their views or statements, in an age-appropriate way without distressing details. A video call with parents or members of a support group and a short theatre scene introduce one of these stories. Afterwards, the children draw a portrait with an artist and can add their own words of support.

The children’s programme is led by theatre director Maria Yasinover, who teaches theatre classes for children in Berlin. It takes place in Russian and German. Everyone is welcome to join the letter writing in any language; introductory guidance and information are available in Russian, English and German.

With support from Reforum Space Berlin, Demokrati-Ja, Feminist Anti-War Resistance Berlin and the Memorial Society.
